1000 series are essentially pure aluminum with a minimum 99% aluminum content. Iron and silicon are the major impurities of these alloys. The production process of the series is relatively single due to without additional alloying elements, which makes them with low cost. And due to lack of alloying elements, the series alloys have high corrosion resistance and are also relatively soft compared to other alloys. Moreover, they are non-heat treatable and weldable, and have high thermal and electrical conductivities, low mechanical properties, and excellent workability. They find use in a wide range of applications including electrical conductors and chemical processing equipment. And with a good corrosion resistance, they can also be used in food processing equipment or outdoor structures.
