Platinum Alloys

Description

Platinum alloys are alloys made by mixing platinum with other metals, such as palladium, rhodium, yttrium, ruthenium, cobalt, osmium, copper, etc. Different elements act differently on platinum alloys, for example, the elements that have a strong influence on the temperature coefficient of its resistance are molybdenum, tungsten, ruthenium, silver. The alloying elements that have a strong influence on the hardness of platinum are nickel and ruthenium. The alloys composed of platinum, iridium, rhodium and refractory are the most commonly used alloying elements. In addition to the most common application in jewelry, platinum alloys can be used as functional materials, such as temperature measuring materials, catalysts, electrical contact materials, electrode materials, elastic materials, water magnetic materials, etc.

  • Platinum-Iridium Alloys

Platinum–Iridium (Pt-Ir) alloys are alloys of the platinum group precious metals platinum and iridium. When added to platinum in small quantities, iridium will increase platinum's hardness—while in larger amounts, iridium can cause the metal to lose its ductility. In addition to jewelry, Platinum-Iridium alloys can be used in pacemakers, electrical contacts, spark plugs, electro explosive devices, medical leads and electrodes, thermistors, catalytic applications, pen points, surgical pins and pivots.

Alfa Chemistry provides high-quality Platinum–Iridium alloys in the shapes of wire, insulated wire, foil, rod, tube, etc. We can also customize various shapes of Platinum–Iridium products according to your requirements or drawings.
