Sputtering Targets
Sputtering is a type of physical vapor deposition technology. It uses ions generated by an ion source, which are accelerated and gathered in a high vacuum to form a high-speed ion beam to bombard the solid surface. Kinetic energy exchange occurs between ions and solid surface atoms, causing the atoms on the solid surface to leave the solid and deposit on the substrate surface, thereby forming a thin film. Sputtering targets are materials used in the process of physical vapor deposition (PVD) to create thin films on a substrate. Generally speaking, sputtering targets are mainly composed of target blanks, back plates and other parts. Among them, the target blank is the target material bombarded by high-speed ion beam and is the core part of the sputtering target. The backing plate mainly plays the role of fixing the sputtering target, and needs to have good electrical and thermal conductivity properties. As a key raw material for thin film preparation, sputtering targets are widely used in various industries such as semiconductors, flat panel displays, and solar cells.
Classification
There are many types of sputtering targets, and even sputtering targets of the same material have different specifications. According to different classification methods, sputtering targets can be divided into different categories. The main classifications are as follows:
Classification Standards | Product Categories |
---|---|
Shape | Round targets, square targets, tube targets, arc targets, special-shaped targets, etc. |
Chemical Composition | Conventional metal targets, precious metal targets, rare earth metal targets, alloy targets, non-metal targets and ceramic targets |
Application Areas | Semiconductor chip targets, flat panel display targets, solar cell targets, information storage targets, tool modification targets, electronic device targets, etc. |
