Tantalum is a gray, heavy, and very hard metal that mainly occurs in ores of tantalite, samarskite and pyrochlore. Tantalum is a strong and ductile metal and at temperatures below 150°C, it is quite immune to chemical attack. It is known to be resistant to corrosion due to an oxide film on its surface. The specific resistance of tantalum is around 0.2 ohms per centimeter cube at room temperature making it one of the best electrical resistive materials available today.
