Copper

Description

Copper is a reddish, extremely ductile metal that reflects red and orange light and absorbs other frequencies in the visible spectrum, due to its band structure. Copper is commercially produced primarily by smelting or leaching followed by electrodeposition, usually from sulfate solutions. The major portion of copper produced in the world is used in the electrical industries; most of the rest is combined with other metals to form alloys. Specifically, it can be used in power transmission lines, architectural applications, cooking utensils, spark plugs, electrical wiring, cables and busbars, high conductivity wires, electrodes, heat exchangers, refrigeration tubing, plumbing, water-cooled copper crucibles, and so on.
