Aluminum Alloy 3000 Series

Aluminum Alloy 3000 Series

Manganese is the major alloying element of 3000 series alloys with the additions of manganese ranging from 0.05 to 1.8%. Aluminum alloy 3000 series are non-heat treatable. Due to the high content of manganese, these alloys are known for their excellent formability and weldability. They also have good corrosion resistance but moderate strength with 20% higher than 1000 series alloys and tend to be softer than other alloys. Due to these characteristics, they may be applied in diverse applications for - from kitchen equipment (such as pots and pans) and hardware to heat exchangers in vehicles and power plants to architectural components. Restricted to their moderate strength, they may not be suited for applications requiring strength or increased structural support. In addition, these base alloys can be welded with 1000, 4000 and 5000 series filler alloys, dependent on their specific chemistry and particular application and service requirements.
