Iridium is a silvery metal with a very high density and melting point. Unalloyed metallic iridium is extremely hard and can only be deformed above 600℃ with repeated annealing steps at temperatures higher than 1200℃ and hence difficult to machine and work. Its physic-mechanical properties are highly anisotropic. Iridium is almost as unreactive as gold, and it is notable for being the most corrosion resistant element known. It is unaffected by air, water and acids.

Alfa Chemistry provides high-quality precious metals at a competitive price. Iridium products we can supply are in the shapes of foil, pellet, powder, rod, sputtering target disc, wire, etc. We can also customize various shapes of Iridium products according to your requirements or drawings.

Applications

Iridium is mainly used as has a hardening agent for platinum. And it is also used to make:

  • Crucibles and other equipment that operate at high temperatures.
  • Fountain pen nibs (alloyed with Osmium).
  • Pivot bearings.
  • Scientific and other specialized equipment.
