Neodymium-Based Alloys

Neodymium (Nd), the fourth member of the lanthanide series, which is also light lanthanide, has electronic configuration of 4f3 (spd)3 and crystallizes in the dhcp structure at ambient conditions. As with other lanthanides, pressure driven electronic and structural changes are seen in Nd.

Neodymium-based alloys are compounds that combine neodymium with other metal elements. For instance, neodymium is combined with transition metals, such as iron, in order to not only increase the Marie Curie temperature (directly affecting the coerciveness of the resultant), but also to significantly reduce corrosiveness. Due to neodymium's powerful ferromagnetic properties, neodymium-based alloys can be widely used as rare earth magnets in commercial field.

Alfa Chemistry provides high-quality rare earth alloys at a competitive price. Neodymium-based alloys we can supply including neodymium-iron-boron(Nd-Fe-B) alloys and neodymium-iron (Nd-Fe) alloys. We can customize various shapes of neodymium-based alloys according to your requirements or drawings.

Applications

The most important feature of neodymium-based alloys is the magnetism. To be specific, the Nd-Fe-B alloy is a kind of permanent magnet and is also the most commonly used rare earth magnet. Neodymium-based alloys are commonly used in the following aspects:

  • In the field of microwave communication technology. They are widely used in radar technology, satellite communications, remote control telemetry, electronic tracking, and electronic countermeasures.
  • In the field of electrical engineering. For example, neodymium-based alloys are widely used in electric bicycle motors, elevator traction machine motors, refrigerator air conditioner motors, and wind-driven motor, etc.
  • In the field of electroacoustic devices. For example, neodymium-based alloys are used to manufacture speakers, microphones, hearing aids, stereo headphones, telephone receivers, electro-acoustic sensors, etc.
  • Other applications include using in the magnetic mechanical engineering, transportation, magnetic separation technology, magnetization technology, magnetic therapy and fitness equipment.
