Yttrium-Based Alloys
Yttrium (Y) is a highly crystalline iron-gray, rare-earth metal which occurs geologically in many minerals along with the heavier lanthanide elements; this is a consequence of similar ionic sizes and chemical behavior. Yttrium is fairly stable in air, because it is protected by the formation by the formation of a stable oxide film on its surface but oxidizes readily when heated. It reacts with water decomposing it to release hydrogen gas, and it reacts with mineral acids.
Yttrium is widely applied in making specialty alloys and it increases the strengths of alloys of metals such as chromium, aluminum, and magnesium. Yttrium-based alloys have some special uses as well. These alloys tend to be hard, resistant to wear, and resistant to corrosion. They are used in cutting tools, seals, bearings, and jet engine coatings.
Alfa Chemistry provides high-quality rare earth alloys at a competitive price. Yttrium-based alloys we can supply including yttrium-aluminum (Y-Al) alloys, yttrium-nickel (Y-Ni) alloys, yttrium-iron (Y-Fe) alloys, yttrium-zirconium-palladium (Y-Zr) alloys. We can customize various shapes of yttrium-based alloys according to your requirements or drawings.

Applications
Adding yttrium can reduce the alloys' mass gain and surface adherence. Yttrium-based alloys have various applications, for instance:
- Yttrium-aluminum (Y-Al) alloys can be used as additives for high-temperature alloys and anti-corrosive alloys.
- Yttrium-nickel (Y-Ni) alloys can be used in hydrogen storage material and atomic clock.
- Yttrium-iron (Y-Fe) alloy is mainly used as a steel additive, a NdFeB permanent magnet additive, an optical magnetic recording material, and a nuclear fuel diluent, etc.
- Yttrium-magnesium (Y-Mg) alloys are mainly used as additives to improve the mechanical properties of magnesium alloy materials.
