Ti-2.5Cu
Description
Ti-2.5Cu titanium alloy, also known as Ti-230 titanium alloy, is a binary alloy with 2.5% copper added to improve mechanical properties (particularly at elevated temperatures (up to 662 °F)) compared to unalloyed titanium while maintaining the formability and weldability. Aged Ti-2.5Cu alloy is more creep-resistant than the hardest grade of commercially pure titanium at all temperatures. Since 1959, the alloy has been used in annealed condition as sheet, forgings and extrusions for fabricating components such as bypass ducts of gas-turbine engines. By the development of an ageing treatment, it also has been used in airframe industry. Ageing treatment can raise its room temperature tensile properties by ~25% and nearly double the elevated temperature properties.

Additional Properties
Forming: It is amenable to cold forming by conventional methods, such as pressing, stretch forming, spinning, etc., as applied to the stainless steels.
Welding: Ti-2.5Cu Alloy can be joined by fusion, resistance, flash-butt and pressure welding.
Heat Treatment: The full heat treatment consists of solution treatment at 805 ± 10 °C followed by a rapid cool and a duplex ageing process of 8-24 h at 400 °C and 8 h at 475 °C.
Applications
Ti-2.5Cu is used both in the airframe and in components such as bypass ducts for gas-turbine engines.
