Niobium - Tantalum / Wire

Description

Niobium - Tantalum / Wire

Niobium and Tantalum share many chemical properties. They both have similar atomic numbers, similar melting points, and similar densities. They resist corrosion from most acids, though they can be damaged by hydrofluoric acid or hot sulfuric acid. Niobium-tantalum (Ni-Ta) alloy is an alloy based on niobium added with the tantalum element. Niobium-tantalum is one of numerous high purity refractory alloys supplied by Alfa Chemistry. As a master alloy, niobium-tantalum can be used for grain refining, hardening, and improving alloy performance by enhancing properties such as ductility and machinability.

Applications

Niobium-tantalum alloy is a superconducting metal material. Superconductivity occurs in certain materials at very low temperatures. Superconductors carry electrical current with little or no resistance and exclude magnetic fields. Superconductivity is a quantum physics effect caused when conduction electrons move in pairs and so eliminate resistance to their movement. Superconductors have a range of potential applications. Applications of niobium-tantalum wire include:

  • Chemical industry
  • Electronic
  • Aviation and aerospace
