446 Stainless Steel

UNS S44600

Description

446
STAINLESS STEEL

The grade 446 stainless steel is a ferritic, non-heat treatable stainless steel that provides good resistance to high temperature oxidation and corrosion. 446 stainless steel is the only heat resistant alloy that can tolerate molten red copper and brass. This grade is most commonly used between 1500-2100 °F, although its elevated temperature strength is quite low. Compared with other high chromium ferrite stainless steels, 446 becomes brittle (embrittlement at 885 °F) in the 700-1000 °F,  and thus it should not be used at these temperatures.
