Description
Tungsten is an element with an atomic number of 74. This gray, steel-like metal has the highest melting and boiling points of all the chemical elements, and it is nearly twice as dense as lead. Even though incandescent lamps are being replaced by more energy-efficient LED lights, tungsten is still very important to the lighting industry because of its extremely high intensity at very high temperatures. In fact, it has the best high temperature strength among four common refractory metals: molybdenum, tantalum, tungsten, and niobium.
