Titanium Grade 12
UNS R53400
Description
Titanium Grade 12 is lightly alloyed near-alpha alloy with the chemical component of Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni. The alloy contains elements of Mo and Ni, which offers Titanium Grade 12 with superior corrosion resistance and increased strength while maintaining other excellent properties as pure titanium grades. The superior corrosion resistance can resist the attack from highly oxidizing and mildly reducing environments. In addition, Grade 12 has excellent crevice corrosion resistance (especially in chloride-containing media), good heat and wear resistance and is highly weldable. Grade 12 can be hot or cold formed using press brake forming, hydropress forming, stretch forming or drop hammer method. Like other low-alloy titanium materials, Titanium Grade 12 is mainly developed for use in the chemical industry.

Additional Properties
Machinability: Titanium Grade 12 is readily machinable by conventional methods. Like stainless steel, titanium has a low thermal conductivity and heat dissipation is inhibited, so copious amounts of coolant should be used. Sharp carbide tools are used. Deep, continuous cuts are best.
Weldability: Titanium Grade 12 is readily weldable by GMAW (MIG) and GTAW (TIG) processes. Preheat or post weld heat treatment are not needed.
Heat Treatment: Titanium Grade 12 is normally supplied in the annealed condition. After fabrication, stress relief at 480-595 °C, air cooled, may be required to improve dimensional stability.
