Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn
UNS R56620
Description
Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn (Ti 6-6-2) is an alpha-beta titanium alloy with heat treatable. Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn has many similar properties to Ti-6Al-4V alloy but offers higher strength and section hardenability because of its elevated alloy content of vanadium, iron, and copper. Thus, Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn is used as a higher strength alternative to Ti-6Al-4V. However, having high strength is at the sacrifice of weldability, ductility and toughness. In most cases, welding is not recommended to Ti 6-6-2 but it is readily machinable utilizing low cutting speeds, heavy feed rates, sharp tools, and ample cutting fluid, and its machinability is similar to austenitic steel. Usually, Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn alloy is used for forgings and extrusions requiring greater strength than Ti-6Al-4V. The typical use is in airframe component applications.
