TITANIUM ALLOY

Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn (Ti-15-3 is its shortened designation) is a metastable beta titanium alloy that can be strip-rolled and heat-treated. In order to develop a titanium alloy that can be fabricated by cold-forming operations to reduce manufacturing and fabrication costs and to facilitate repairs in the field, the alloy was born. Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn has excellent cold formability, which can be cold formed to quite intricate shapes with improved structural efficiency. Moreover, the alloy is weldable, relatively insensitive to environments such as saltwater, and has high strength in the aged condition and good room temperature bending properties. Based on the above properties, the alloy is primarily used where cold formability and high strength are desired.

Additional Properties

Heat Treatment: Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn alloy can be hardened by aging.
Forming: Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn alloy can be hot or cold formed. Cold forming is easy to perform. It is strip-producible.
Welding: Weldability of grade Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn alloy is rated as good.
Cold Working: Cold working features of this material is same as that of a moderately tempered austenitic stainless steel. Post-work annealing is recommended to re-attain favorable performance properties.
