Description

Niobium is one of the most promising refractory metals for ultra-high temperature structural applications, because of its very high melting temperature. Alloying element tungsten, which is a group VIA element, and which goes into solid solution with niobium, is the most effective in imparting high temperature strength. Especially, Nb521 (Nb-5W-2Mo-1Zr) contains many kinds of carbide reinforcing phase, the aggregation and length of reinforcing phase reduce the high temperature strength of the material. It has excellent room temperature plastic deformation capacity and can be formed at room temperature for more complex workpiece. In addition, it has good mechanical properties at room temperature and can meet the requirements of engine use in 1550℃.
