Description
Niobium-Hafnium (Ni-Hf) alloys are formed by adding a certain amount of hafnium into niobium metal. On the binary phase diagram, niobium and β-Hf form a displacement solid solution. Hafnium, with a melting point of 2,233℃, is a key member of the superalloy family with key usage in a range of extreme high temperature uses. And it is an active element that can combine with oxygen and carbonization in niobium to form HfO2 and HfC compounds, which plays a role of dispersion strengthening, while reducing the harmful effects of gap elements and improving the weldability and coating properties of niobium alloys.
As a refractory material, niobium-hafnium alloys have high temperature strength above 1300℃ and can be easily coated to resist oxidation. They are the main structural materials of many equipment that works under ultra-high temperature conditions.
