Nickel 270
UNS N02270
Description
Nickel 270 is a high purity grade of nickel made by powder metallurgy, which is essentially free from non-metallic inclusions. The alloy has high ductility and a low base hardness and thus the properties permit heavy cold deformation without reannealing. Its extreme purity is useful for components of hydrogen thyratrons and it is also used for electrical resistance thermometers.

Additional Properties
Machinability: May be machined by conventional means, although the alloy is soft and "gummy". High-speed-steel tooling with very positive rake angle is recommended.
Forming: Easily formed by conventional means.
Welding: May be welded by conventional means. Note that the good thermal conductivity of this material means that welding heat will dissipate from the immediate weld area.
Heat Treatment: Nickel 270 is non hardenable by heat treatment.
Forging: The alloy may be forged at temperatures of 1900 °F to 1300 °F.
Specifications
Strip, Coil, Foil & Wire: ASTM F3
Applications
