Nickel 233

UNS N02233

Description

233
NICKEL ALLOY

Nickel 233 is a commercially pure wrought nickel alloy with excellent corrosion resistance to many corrosive environments, good mechanical properties, high electrical and thermal conduction. Other useful properties of the alloy are magnetic and magnetostrictive properties, low gas content, and low vapor pressure. However, it is subject to intergranular embrittlement by sulfur compounds above 315 °C. Nickel 233 is mainly used in the fields where requires corrosion resistance and where requires maintaining the product purity such as the transport of foods, synthetic fibers and caustic alkalis. Other applications include electrical and electronic components, aviation and missile components.

Additional Properties

Machinability: Behaves like the other 99% nickel content alloys. It is machinable by conventional means, but "gummy" in behavior. Rigid tooling and aggressive feed rates assist in good machining.
Forming: Conventional cold and hot forming methods may be employed with this alloy. Full annealing after work is required to reattain maximum properties.
Welding: This alloy may be welded, soldered or brazed using most conventional processes. Clean and remove all foreign objects prior to welding to assure maximum weld integrity.
Hardening: This alloy does not respond to hardening by heat treatment.

Specifications

Strip, Flat Rolled, Bar and Wire: ASTM F1, ASTM F3, ASTM F4
