Description
Aluminum alloy 7075 is a heat-treatable alloy with zinc as the primary alloying element. It is a very high strength aerospace aluminum with excellent mechanical properties, good ductility, toughness, good resistance to fatigue, and average machinability. In fact, its typical strength in the T6 temper is higher than most mild steels. In addition, it has superior stress corrosion resistance in the T173 and T7351 tempers, which makes it a suitable replacement for 2024, 2014 and 2017 alloys in many of the most critical applications. But it is not weldable and has less resistance to corrosion than many other alloys. Aluminum alloy 7075 is commonly used in highly stressed structural applications and has been extensively utilized in aircraft and ordnance industries.
