Description

7068
ALUMINUM ALLOY

Aluminum alloy 7068 is a heat treatable wrought alloy, providing the highest mechanical strength of all aluminum alloys and matching that of certain steels. It has good fatigue strength, good anodizing response, good ductility, and high thermal conductivity. Its ultimate tensile strength and yield strength are up to 700 MPa (greater than that of 7075 alloy) while corrosion resistance is similar to 7075 alloy. Specifically, 7068-T6511 has typical ultimate tensile strength of 710 MPa (103 ksi) versus a similar product produced from 7075-T6511 that would have a typical ultimate tensile strength of 640 MPa (93 ksi). Typical yield strength for alloy 7068-T6511 is 683 MPa (99.1 ksi) versus 590 MPa (86 ksi) for a similar product produced from 7075-T6511. Thus, it was designed as a higher strength alternative to aluminum 7075 for ordnance applications.
