Description

6262
ALUMINUM ALLOY

Aluminum alloy 6262 is a heat treatable alloy belonging to the wrought aluminum-magnesium-silicon family. The key characteristics of the alloy are excellent machinability, good corrosion resistance and overall strength. The excellent machinability is attributed to the addition of lead and bismuth, while the combination of magnesium, copper and silicon enhances its the mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. By using high-speed steel or carbide tooling can obtain the smooth surface finishes of the alloy machined parts. In turn the excellent finish of machined parts allows the material to be anodised with ease. In addition, 6262 aluminum alloy can be hardened by cold working or by a combination of aging and subsequent cold working.
