Description

5086
ALUMINUM ALLOY

Aluminum alloy 5086 is a medium to high strength non-heat treatable alloy and the strength can be improved by strain hardening or cold mechanical working. 5086 offers users strong corrosion resistance, good resistant to stress corrosion cracking and exfoliation, and high electrical conductivity. It can be readily welded by conventional methods (electric arc welding is preferred) and retains most of its mechanical strength since heat treatment doesn't strongly affect the strength. It also has good machining characteristics in the strain hardened tempers of H38, H36, and H34. These characteristics, particular excellent welding and corrosion properties, make it extremely popular for vessel gangways, building boat and yacht hulls.
