Description
Aluminum alloy 2219 belongs to the wrought aluminum-copper family, which is a high strength alloy with a desirable combination of good machinability and good mechanical properties. It is also readily weldable and has good fracture toughness. Thereinto, the good fracture toughness makes it useful over a temperature range of -452 °F to 600 °F. In the T8 condition, 2219 alloy is resistant to stress corrosion cracking and the alloy is commonly formed by both extrusion and forging, but is not used in casting. 2219 alloy is mainly used in high temperature, structural applications and in high strength elements. The typical application is in the aerospace sector.
