Alloy 400
UNS N04400
Description
Alloy 400 is a ductile nickel-copper alloy with superb corrosion resistance under various conditions including seawater, marine atmospheres, organic acids (such as hydrofluoric acid, sulphuric acid, etc.) and neutral and alkaline salts. And with high nickel content, this alloy is immune to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. It also has high strength and toughness over a wide range of temperatures, in which the strength is comparable to that of structural steel. However, as with commercially pure nickel, Alloy 400 is low in strength in the annealed condition. Thus, it is consequently offered in a variety of tempers which increase the strength of the material. In addition, Alloy 400 is only hardenable through cold working, rather than heat treatment.
