Alloy 36
UNS K93603
Description
Alloy 36 is a nickel-iron, low expansion alloy containing 36% nickel. Due to the composition of 36% nominal nickel and the balance iron, Alloy 36 has a low coefficient of thermal expansion with a rate of thermal expansion approximately one-tenth that of carbon steel at temperatures up to 400 °F (204 °C). And it retains incredible strength and toughness at cryogenic temperatures and maintains constant dimensions over the range of normal atmospheric conditions. This alloy is used for applications where dimensional changes due to temperature variation must be minimized.
