AISI 1045
UNS G10450
Description
AISI 1045 is a medium carbon, medium tensile carbon steel with carbon content of 0.43%-0.5%, which is a commonly used carbon steel with a wide range of applications due to its typical benefits. It has good weldability, good machinability, high strength and impact properties in either the normalized or hot-rolled condition, but low in hardenability because of lack of suitable alloying elements. However, it can be efficiently flame- or induction-hardened in the normalized or hot rolled condition to obtain surface hardness in the range of Rc 54-Rc 60. AISI 1045 is typically used in machinery parts, die forging, hot upsetting, gears, crankshafts, shafts, axles, bolts, studs, pinions, casters, and support plates.
