AISI 1040
UNS G10400
Description
AISI 1040 steel (specifically, it is equivalent to EN8/080M40) is medium carbon steel with medium-strength, adequate tensile strength and good hardness. The hardness can be further improved by heat treatment. It is also ductile and easily machined. It can be machined using all the conventional methods like turning, drilling, tapping, etc. AISI 1040 possesses good resistant to chemicals and humid environments, as well as has excellent heat resistance, which makes it an excellent choice for a variety of applications including high-temperature and cryogenic storage tanks, farm equipment, ships, bridges and naval applications.
