AISI 1008
UNS G10080
Description
AISI 1008 is a low-carbon steel type with enough manganese and phosphorus. It has excellent weldability including projection, butt, spot and fusion, and brazeability. AISI 1008 carbon steel is primarily used in extruded, cold headed, cold upset, and cold pressed parts and forms. AISI 1008 in the cold rolled condition is used for exposed or unexposed parts where bending, moderate drawing, forming and welding may be. Additionally, the type of steel has higher strength, providing good ductility in thicker gauges. It also has good thermal forming properties, that is, it can be deformed by hot rolling and hot forging process under pressure to eliminate casting defects and improve the structure and mechanical properties, and it can also be processed into various sizes of rings, tubes, shafts, plates and other complex shapes as required.
